Of all the lessons we learned during the pandemic, one of the most important ones was about recognizing the importance of local infrastructure. This was especially the case when it came to buying food — the one thing almost all of us had to get out and find, even during the strictest phases of lockdown.
Supporting our local food infrastructure including supporting local community markets and small locally owned independent food stores and food suppliers is vitally important because it helps:
• build a secure, resilient and safe food supply.
• create and keep important local jobs.
• preserve local farmland.
• keep money in the community.
• build local sustainability.
• alleviate our dependence on fossil fuels and thereby reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases.
If you’re looking to shop more locally, here are some of the many local options that you might want to consider. Please note that hours may change as COVID-19 restrictions change.
